About
Entry-level business analyst with a Kelley School of Business degree in information systems and business analytics and an ECBA. Has written user stories and UAT scripts for an insurer’s claims portal and mapped a food distributor’s order-to-cash process. Professional Experience
Capstone Business Analyst (Client Consulting Project), Brenmoor Foodservice (Kelley capstone client), Indianapolis, IN Jan 2026-Apr 2026
- Interviewed 9 warehouse, sales and finance staff and mapped the as-is order-to-cash process in BPMN, exposing 4 manual re-keying steps.

Education
Bachelor of Science in Business, Information Systems major and Business Analytics co-major, Indiana University Kelley School of Business, 2026 · GPA 3.6
Certifications
Entry Certificate in Business Analysis (ECBA), IIBA, 2026 · Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300), 2025
Core Skills
Requirements elicitation · User stories and acceptance criteria · Process mapping (BPMN 2.0) · Current and future-state analysis · SQL (joins, CTEs) · Power BI dashboards · Excel (Power Query, pivot tables) · UAT test scripts · Stakeholder interviews · Scrum ceremonies
Why this example works
- Treats the capstone and internship like jobs, with stakeholders, method and result, so a thin work history still reads as real analysis.
- Names the BA artifacts she produced (user stories, UAT scripts, swimlanes, dashboards), the exact evidence junior BA hiring managers screen for.
- The ECBA and PL-300 answer the training question early and back up the SQL and Power BI skills she lists.
Why this example works
- Opens with a pro bono BA project, so the first entry a recruiter reads already carries a business analyst title and BA artifacts.
- Keeps her real job titles but rewrites each bullet around requirements, process maps and UAT, the honest way to show transferable analysis.
- Every result is operational (resolution days, defects caught, disputes ended), which proves she understands why analysis matters to the business.

Certifications
Certification of Capability in Business Analysis (CCBA), IIBA, 2024 (ECBA, 2019) · Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), Scrum Alliance
Core Skills
Requirements gathering and BRDs · Process mapping and improvement (BPMN) · Data analysis (SQL, Excel) · User stories and acceptance criteria · Gap and impact analysis · Stakeholder management · UAT coordination · Agile and Scrum · Lending compliance requirements (Reg B, HMDA)
Why this example works
- Every bullet ties analysis to an outcome (processing days, hours saved, audit result), so it reads as impact, not a list of documents.
- Names the lending rules he translated into requirements, the domain proof financial services hiring managers look for.
- Shows a clean intern to junior BA to BA path with CCBA earned along the way, a strong signal for a senior BA promotion.
Why this example works
- Puts systems and integration artifacts (field mappings, OpenAPI specs, traceability) in the bullets, which is what separates an IT BA from a generalist.
- Quantifies both the business result and the technical quality, such as order entry time and failed syncs, so IT and business readers both see value.
- Explains the QA to BA path in one bullet, turning an unusual start into proof her requirements are testable.

Best resume format for a business analyst
Use a reverse-chronological business analyst resume: a short summary, a skills and tools section, then experience with quantified outcomes. Entry-level and most BAs under 8 years fit on 1 page; senior, lead and specialist BAs can use 2. Keep it single-column so applicant tracking systems parse it.
| Your situation | Format | Length | Lead with |
|---|---|---|---|
| Entry-level or new grad BA | Reverse-chronological with internships and projects | 1 page | Degree, ECBA or SQL credential, internships and capstone projects |
| Career changer | Hybrid: summary, BA projects, then prior roles | 1 page | Transferable analysis: SME work, UAT, process fixes, reporting |
| Business analyst (2-7 years) | Reverse-chronological | 1 page | Domain, systems, methods and quantified outcomes |
| IT BA or business systems analyst | Reverse-chronological with a technical skills line | 1 page (2 with 8+ years) | Systems, integrations, specs and UAT results |
| Healthcare business analyst | Reverse-chronological | 1-2 pages | Payer or provider systems, regulations, EDI and FHIR work |
| Senior or lead BA | Reverse-chronological | 2 pages | Portfolio scope, team leadership, business cases, CBAP |

How to write a business analyst resume that gets interviews
A business analyst resume gets interviews when it shows you connect business needs to working solutions. Frame each role around processes improved, time saved and systems delivered, not documents produced. Every business analyst resume example on this page follows that rule.
Show the full BA toolkit: requirements elicitation, process mapping and data analysis, plus the methods behind them, such as BPMN, user stories, SQL and Agile ceremonies. Name the systems you analyzed, for example Salesforce, SAP or a loan-origination platform, so recruiters see your domain at a glance.
Then quantify outcomes: cycle time reduced, hours saved, defects caught in UAT, adoption of the systems you helped ship and money recovered or avoided. Numbers turn a task list into evidence of impact.
Business analysis is as much about people as process, so show the stakeholders you aligned, the workshops you ran and the decisions your analysis drove. Credentials such as ECBA, CCBA or CBAP and a clean 1 to 2 page format round out a credible BA resume.
What hiring managers look for on a business analyst resume
Hiring managers scan a business analyst resume for domain fit, delivery method and proof that your requirements held up in build and test. They want the systems, the stakeholders and the business result, not a list of BABOK knowledge areas.
- Domain match: lending, insurance, healthcare payer, supply chain or SaaS, with the systems named
- Method: Agile (user stories, backlog refinement), plan-driven (BRDs, traceability matrices) or both
- Analysis depth: SQL, process mapping, root cause and gap analysis, business cases
- Requirements quality: fewer change requests, defects caught before release, clean UAT sign-off
- Influence: workshops facilitated, leaders briefed and decisions your recommendation drove
Entry-level business analyst resume with no experience
An entry-level business analyst resume with no BA job title should lead with analysis you have already done: internships, capstone consulting projects, process fixes at work and data projects. Present each like a job, with stakeholders, method and result.
Career changers usually have more relevant experience than they think. Acting as subject-matter expert on a system rollout, UAT testing, writing procedures and building reports all count. Keep your real job titles, but describe the analysis you did inside each role.
Add the ECBA from IIBA, which has no work experience requirement, or a SQL or Power BI credential. Then target junior business analyst, business analyst I and associate business systems analyst postings, where hiring managers expect to train.
Business analyst resume keywords for ATS
Applicant tracking systems match the exact terms in a business analyst job posting, so mirror its methods, tools and domain wherever they are true for you. Spell out acronyms once, such as Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN).
- Requirements: requirements elicitation, BRD, functional specifications, user stories, acceptance criteria, traceability
- Analysis: gap analysis, root cause analysis, process mapping, current and future state, cost-benefit analysis
- Delivery: Agile, Scrum, backlog refinement, UAT, change management, stakeholder management
- Data and tools: SQL, Excel, Power BI, Tableau, Jira, Confluence, Visio, Lucidchart
- Systems by domain: Salesforce, SAP S/4HANA, Workday, ServiceNow, Facets, Epic
Business analyst resume: what to include vs. what to avoid
| ✓ Include | ✗ Avoid |
|---|---|
| Your BA focus in the headline: IT, business systems, healthcare, data or Agile | Duty lists like gathered requirements with no system, stakeholder or result |
| The artifacts you own: BRDs, user stories, process maps, data mappings, traceability matrices | Listing every BABOK knowledge area instead of showing the work |
| Named systems and tools: Salesforce, SAP, Jira, SQL, Power BI, Visio | Tool lists padded with software you used once in a course |
| Quantified outcomes: cycle time, hours saved, defects caught, adoption, cost avoided | Confidential client names, internal project code names or proprietary data |
| Stakeholder scope: teams, workshops and the leaders who signed off | Claims like excellent communicator with no workshop or decision behind them |
| Certifications with the issuing body: ECBA, CCBA or CBAP (IIBA), CSM or CSPO (Scrum Alliance) | Multi-column templates, tables and text boxes that ATS parsers misread |
| Domain knowledge the posting asks for, such as HIPAA, HMDA or X12 EDI | Objective statements about what you want instead of what you deliver |
How to write a business analyst resume
- Choose your BA focus. Decide which business analyst roles you are targeting, such as IT, business systems, healthcare, data or Agile, and put that focus in your headline with your strongest certification, for example Business Systems Analyst, CCBA.
- Write a results-first summary. In 3 to 4 sentences, state your years of BA experience, your domain and systems, the methods you use and one strength the posting asks for. New analysts swap years of experience for internships, projects and the ECBA.
- List skills and tools the posting names. Group requirements, process and data skills, then add a technical line with tools such as Jira, SQL, Power BI, Visio and the platforms you analyzed. Only list tools you could use confidently in an interview task.
- Turn duties into outcomes. Rewrite each bullet as verb, task and result: what you analyzed or defined, for whom, and what changed. Use cycle time, hours saved, defects caught, adoption rates and costs avoided, with before-and-after numbers where you can.
- Show stakeholders and delivery method. Name the teams you worked with, the workshops you ran and whether you delivered in Scrum, Kanban or plan-driven projects. Hiring managers want proof you can align people, not just write documents.
- Add certifications and education. List IIBA credentials (ECBA, CCBA, CBAP), Agile certifications and platform credentials such as Salesforce or Power BI with the issuing body and year. Put your degree below experience unless you graduated within the last year.
- Check format and ATS fit. Use a single-column, reverse-chronological layout with standard headings, match the posting’s job title where it fits, save as PDF or DOCX as requested and run the file through an ATS checker before you apply.
