- Names HubSpot, LinkedIn Ads and WordPress, the platforms a B2B marketing executive advert usually lists.
Applying through an online portal? Use the Word download: it is the same CV in a single-column, ATS-safe layout. Keep this two-column design for emailing and networking.
Why this example works
- Leads each role with a digital metric a hiring manager trusts: ROAS, cost per acquisition, revenue share or organic sessions.

Best CV format for a marketing executive
Use a reverse-chronological marketing executive CV in a single column: personal profile, key skills, employment history, then education and qualifications. Keep graduate and junior marketing CVs to one side of A4; experienced marketers can use two. Link a portfolio rather than adding graphics that ATS cannot read.
| Your situation | Format | Length | Lead with |
|---|---|---|---|
| Graduate or no experience | Reverse-chronological: profile, skills, internships and projects as experience | 1 page | Degree, internships, society or freelance results, certifications |
| Apprentice or apprenticeship applicant | Reverse-chronological | 1 page | Apprenticeship standard and level, campaigns you supported |
| Career changer from retail, sales or teaching | Hybrid: profile and transferable skills first | 1 page | Promotions, content and customer insight from your current job, plus any CIM course |
| Marketing executive (2 to 6 years) | Reverse-chronological | 1 page (2 if varied roles) | Channels, tools and measurable results |
| Digital or specialist marketer | Reverse-chronological with a tools section | 1 to 2 pages | Platforms, budgets, ROAS, cost per acquisition and conversion |
| Senior marketing executive or manager | Reverse-chronological | 2 pages | Budget, team, agencies and commercial impact |
Every example above follows these rules, on A4 and without a photo, date of birth or full address.
How to write a marketing executive CV that gets interviews
A marketing executive CV gets interviews when it shows campaigns you planned, delivered and measured. Your CV is itself a piece of marketing, so put your strongest proof in the personal profile and the first bullet of each role.
Give every claim a channel, a scale and a result. ‘Lifted webinar sign-ups from 90 to 260 with a three-email sequence’ beats ‘responsible for email marketing’. Use the measures the employer tracks, such as leads, cost per acquisition, ROAS, sign-ups or event bookings.
Job titles vary. England’s National Careers Service lists digital marketing executive, marketing officer and online marketing officer as other titles, so use the advert’s exact title under your name. This advice works for a digital marketing executive CV or a marketing officer CV too.
Marketing executive CV with no experience
You can write a marketing executive CV with no experience by treating internships, student societies, freelance projects and part-time jobs as campaign evidence. Lead with a personal profile that names the role you want and the tools you already use.
The National Careers Service suggests volunteering with a charity’s social media and events as a way in. A free Google Analytics certification, a HubSpot Academy course and a small portfolio of posts, emails or blogs give a hiring manager real work to judge.
Apprenticeships are a strong route without a degree. England offers Multi-channel Marketer (Level 3), Marketing Executive (Level 4) and Digital Marketer (Level 6 degree) apprenticeships, and the T Level in Marketing began in September 2025. Scotland offers a Modern Apprenticeship in Digital Marketing.
Career changers from retail, sales, hospitality or teaching should use a hybrid CV: profile, transferable skills, then experience reframed as marketing, such as promotions run, customer feedback analysed or content written. The CIM Level 3 Foundation Certificate is aimed at career changers and needs no previous marketing knowledge.
Keywords to include on a marketing CV
Include the exact channels, tools and qualifications named in the advert, because many UK employers screen applications with applicant tracking systems. Work keywords into your skills and bullets naturally, and spell out each acronym once, such as search engine optimisation (SEO).
- Campaign planning, integrated campaigns and marketing calendar
- Content marketing, copywriting and brand guidelines
- Social media, paid social, Meta Ads and LinkedIn Ads
- Email marketing, automation and CRM (HubSpot, Salesforce, Dotdigital)
- SEO, PPC, Google Ads and GA4
- Events, exhibitions and PR
- KPIs: leads, conversion rate, cost per acquisition, ROAS, engagement
- CIM qualifications and Google or Meta certifications
UK marketing rules worth showing on your CV
Employers value marketers who keep campaigns legal, and naming the rules you work to signals real experience. The main ones are UK GDPR and PECR for email, texts and cookies, and the CAP Code, which the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) applies to ads and influencer posts.
Under PECR you generally need consent to send marketing emails or texts to individuals, unless the PECR soft opt-in applies to your own customers (people who bought or negotiated to buy from you). A bullet showing you cleansed a list or recorded consent properly is specific and persuasive.
Influencer and paid social work should show you label ads clearly, for example with #ad, as the ASA expects. Ecommerce and brand roles can mention the CMA’s Green Claims Code for environmental claims and the April 2025 ban on fake and hidden incentivised reviews.
Charity marketers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland work to the Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Fundraising Practice, so name it alongside Gift Aid and supporter consent if you have handled them.
What to include and leave off a UK marketing executive CV
| ✓ Include | ✗ Avoid |
|---|---|
| A 3-5 line personal profile naming the marketing role you want | A photo, date of birth, age, marital status or nationality |
| Channels and tools: GA4, Google Ads, Meta, HubSpot, WordPress, Canva | Your full home address or National Insurance number |
| Results with numbers: leads, sales, ROAS, sign-ups, bookings | Named referees (write ‘References available on request’ if you have space) |
| Scale: budget managed, team size, number of campaigns or clients | Graphics, icons, skill bars or text boxes that ATS cannot read |
| A link to your portfolio or LinkedIn profile | Vanity metrics alone, such as impressions or followers with no business result |
| Qualifications: degree, apprenticeship, CIM, Google or Meta certifications | ‘Creative’ and ‘passionate’ with no campaign to prove it |
| Compliance you handled: UK GDPR, PECR consent, ASA ad labelling | Confidential details such as unannounced launches or client data |
| Spelling and grammar errors, which undermine any copywriting claim |
How to write a marketing executive CV
- Read the advert and person specification. List the channels, tools, sector knowledge and qualifications the employer asks for, then mark the essential ones. These become your keywords and tell you which campaigns to lead with on your marketing executive CV.
- Write a personal profile. In 3-5 lines, say who you are, your years in marketing and the sector, your main channels and tools, one headline result and the role you want. Graduates lead with their degree, internships and certifications instead.
- Add a key skills section. List 8-12 skills that match the advert, mixing channels such as email, paid social and SEO, tools such as GA4, HubSpot and Canva, and core tasks such as campaign planning and copywriting. Keep each one short.
- Show campaigns and results in your employment history. Work backwards from your current job. Give recent roles 3-5 bullets that start with an action verb and include a number: leads, sales, ROAS, cost per acquisition, sign-ups or event bookings. Older roles need only one or two.
- Add education, qualifications and certifications. Give your degree with its classification, or your apprenticeship standard and level, then summarise A-levels or Highers. Add CIM, DMA, Google, Meta or HubSpot certifications with dates, and note any qualification you are currently studying.
- Link your portfolio and proofread. Add a LinkedIn or portfolio link to your contact line, then check spelling, dates and formatting line by line. Save as Word or PDF as the advert asks, with a file name such as ‘Firstname-Surname-CV’.
Marketing Executive salary in the UK
National averages for England. Use them to benchmark offers, not as a promise for any single job.

Covering letter tip for a marketing executive
Write your marketing covering letter like a campaign: a headline result in the first line, two short proof points that match the advert, one line showing you understand the brand’s audience, and a clear call to action. Keep it under one page and proofread twice, because it is a writing sample.
