What you get
Six deliverables built around how UK universities shortlist: against a person specification, weighing research, teaching and citizenship together. Not sure where your CV stands? Start with a free CV review.
Publications presented for UK panels
Peer-reviewed outputs first, in your discipline’s citation style, with articles, monographs, chapters and work in progress clearly separated. Panels often read outputs with the Research Excellence Framework (REF) in mind, so your strongest work is easy to find.
Funding and grants, properly credited
Each award listed with funder, scheme, value, dates and your role (PI or Co-I, or project lead or co-lead on UKRI Funding Service awards), whether it came from a UKRI research council, Wellcome, the Leverhulme Trust, the British Academy or the Royal Society. Studentships and small grants count too.
Teaching record in UK terms
Modules led and taught, seminars, tutorials, marking and moderation, and dissertation or PhD supervision, plus your PGCert in Higher Education or Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) from Advance HE.
Mapped to the person specification
UK panels shortlist against essential and desirable criteria. We mirror that language and evidence every essential criterion on your CV. Writing your own covering letter? Start with our free cover letter templates.
Impact, engagement and citizenship
Research impact, public engagement, knowledge exchange, peer review, editorial boards, external examining and departmental roles, presented as the academic citizenship that appointment and promotion panels weigh alongside your research.
Framed for your career stage
PhD candidates (thesis and viva status), postdocs showing independence, and Lecturers moving to Senior Lecturer, Reader or Professor. Joining from overseas? We translate your titles for UK panels. Leaving academia? See our career change CV service.

Frequently asked questions
How much does an academic CV writing service cost in the UK?
Our academic CV packages cost £129, £169 or £299. Starter Pack covers an expert-written, keyword-optimised academic CV with professional formatting. Career Growth adds a tailored cover letter and our 45-day interview guarantee.
Executive Priority adds a LinkedIn profile rewrite and a first draft within 3 working days. Every package includes free revisions, and you can start with a free CV review.
How long should an academic CV be in the UK?
There is no fixed length, but an academic CV is usually longer than the standard two-page UK CV. PhD candidates and early career researchers often need three to five pages, while senior academics run longer as publications, grants and supervision build up.
Always follow any page limit in the advert, and cut padding: panels want a complete record that is quick to scan.
Should I include a photo or date of birth on a UK academic CV?
No. UK universities do not expect a photo, date of birth or marital status on a CV, and leaving them out keeps the panel’s attention on your research and teaching.
Your right to work is checked separately during recruitment. Open with your name, contact details and a short research profile, then set out your qualifications, posts, publications and funding.
What is the difference between an academic CV and a supporting statement?
Your CV is the record; the supporting statement is the argument. The CV lists your qualifications, posts, publications, funding and teaching.
A supporting statement takes each essential and desirable criterion in the person specification and shows how you meet it with evidence. Many UK university applications ask for both. Career Growth includes a tailored cover letter structured against the person specification, and every package builds your CV to hold the evidence your application points to.
How do I show I am ready to move from postdoc to Lecturer?
Show independence. Lectureship panels look for a research agenda of your own, outputs that show you leading the work (first, last, corresponding or sole author, depending on your discipline), funding you have won or helped to write, and teaching beyond the occasional seminar.
We bring that evidence to the top of your CV, write research interests that point forward, and frame supervision, module work and engagement as proof you can lead a research programme.
Do UK universities use ATS software to screen academic CVs?
Most UK universities recruit through online application systems, but academic shortlisting is usually done by people: a panel scores each application against the person specification.
Your CV therefore needs to upload cleanly as text and make the evidence easy to find. We use a clear A4 layout with standard headings and mirror the wording of the essential and desirable criteria.
How quickly will I receive my academic CV?
Your first draft arrives within 3 to 5 working days, or within 3 working days on Executive Priority. Free revisions are included, so you can refine any section before you apply.
If a closing date on jobs.ac.uk or a university vacancy page is close, tell us when you order and choose Executive Priority so the first draft reaches you sooner.
Are your writers academics?
No, and we are upfront about that. Our writers are professional CV writers who work on academic applications.
You bring the research expertise; your writer knows how UK panels read a CV and asks the right questions to capture your outputs, funding, teaching and service accurately. Nothing goes on your CV that you have not told us.
